Family Fun: Strategy Board GamesSat 18 Oct 2025, 10:00 - 13:00
Board games have been played by humanity for centuries and they are still an important part of the culture of many countries. They are also great tools to improve logical, visual and social skills. In this session families can learn how to play a few different traditional and modern board games together, which are very simple to learn, but at the same time so deep that take a life to master! A variety of strategy board games will be available for families to play. There will be a mix of traditional (Gomoku, Oware, Hnefatafl, Checkers, Go) and modern games (Hive, Quoridor, Abalone, Othello, Tatsu) that anyone can learn.
For all ages and no previous knowledge required.
You should learn the rules of a few traditional and modern games, and some historical, mathematical and linguistic facts about these games.
The tutor, Francesco, works as chess coach and board games lecturer in London. He strongly believes in the educational value of games for human beings of any age. He delivers seminars and classes about abstract strategy games and runs tournaments and events in the field.
PLEASE NOTE: THIS SESSION IS FOR PARENTS/CARERS AND THEIR CHILDREN. YOU NEED TO REMAIN WITH YOUR CHILDREN AT ALL TIMES.

Family Fun: Learn Chess TogetherSat 15 Nov 2025, 13:00 - 15:00
Chess is a popular board game and mind sport with centuries of history and literature. It can be learnt in a few minutes and is challenging and fun. Chess is a good tool to practice logical and visual abilities and socialise with peers. In this session, parents/carers and their children will be taught the rules of chess and will be able to practice and enjoy the game with each other!

Children and adults with basic knowledge of the rules of chess will be able to improve their skills by learning basic strategy and tactics ideas to apply in their games. Other topics include: opening golden rules, basic endgames, typical checkmate patterns.
For all ages. Some basic knowledge of chess needed.
